Based in Luzira, Kampala, LGIHE is currently seeking a suitable candidate to fill the following vacant position:
Job Title: Librarian
Department: Academics
Reports to: Principal
Duty Station: Luzira, Kampala
Job Summary: The main role of the Librarian is to coordinate the acquisition, organisation, dissemination, and manipulation of information resources appropriate to the Institute, students, and staff. The Librarian will be required to manage the library services for effective library service delivery.
Duties of the Librarian
- Selecting and acquiring information resources needed to support the Institute’s core business in both print and electronic format
- Overseeing and planning annual stock-taking
- Managing the subscribed online databases to ensure efficient and effective access to online resources
- Cataloging and classification of information in the library with a focus on increased efficiency in the use of resources
- Developing library guides to support teaching, learning, and research
- Developing and implementing an Institutional Repository
- Managing implementation of off-campus access to resources
- Delivering training to library users for easy location, evaluation, and effective use of the information.
- Ensuring library policy regulations and procedures are adhered to.
- Managing the library budget.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or a related discipline
- At least three years of work experience in an academic library
- ICT proficiency
- Knowledge of library management systems, managing electronic resources and a wide range of library procedures
- Knowledgeable about National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) guidelines and regulations for university libraries
- Knowledge and skills in supporting research in evidence-based practice and systematic reviews
