Assessing High Order Thinking Skills In Secondary Schools

A Case of Uganda Certificate of Education Examinations

In 2018, Luigi Giussani Institute of Higher Education (LGIHE) in collaboration with Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) supported by the Partnership to Strengthen Innovation and Practice in Secondary Education (PSIPSE) PSIPSE conducted a study based on the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations of 2017. Among other objectives, the study sought to establish the proportion of higher order thinking (HOT) and lower order thinking (LOT) skills questions in the five (5) subjects (Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology).

This study is relevant to context as the Uganda new Lower Secondary curriculum Secondary School has been recently launched (2020)
